History
It is believed that Greetland was the site of a Roman settlement called Cambodunum. In 1597, a Roman altar stone that traces back to 208 AD was found at Bank Top.
The Greetland railway station served the village from 1844 to 1962.
Stage 2 of the 2014 Tour de France from York to Sheffield passed through the village on 6 July. The route for the race went east to west from the neighboring Barkisland then through the borough of West Vale and into Elland.
Greetland was also the site of the fourth climb of the stage, the Category 3 Côte de Greetland, at the 119.5 kilometres point.

· “Clay House” – built in 1650 for John Clay and the Clay family. A house owned by Robert Clay is also mentioned as being on this site in 1296. In 1924, the grounds of the house was opened as a park. A war memorial was then built in the hall in 1929. The house is currently managed by the Calderdale Council and is frequently used for weddings. In addition, it's the starting point of the Calderdale Way.
· Calderdale Way – a popular long distance footpath that covers different settlements. It is used for hiking and running. The path was created in the 1970s to draw attention to the attractions in the district of Calderdale. Although any part of the route can be considered as a starting point, the most popular option is to start at the Clay House.
