Flower Delivery to Broxburn, West Lothian with Clare Florist

Broxburn is a small market town in West Lothian, Scotland. At first glance, it might seem like the average traditional working town that is struggling to adapt to today’s tough industrial times. However, once you look around, you’ll definitely be in for a spectacular discovery.

History

Broxburn has a rich history that dates back to the early 1350s. It started as a small hamlet inherited by Margery le Cheyne after her father’s death. It was later named Eastertoun, after the land on which it stood.

Sometime around 1443, Eastertoun burned to ash during a clash between William Crichton, the Chancellor of Scotland and William Douglas, the Lieutenant-General of Scotland. And in 1455, it was further destroyed during a fight that involved King James II and the Douglases. Resettlement followed only after the conflict got resolved. It wasn’t until during the 1600s that Eastertoun was renamed to Broxburn, as proposed by Sir Richard Cockburn, Keeper of the Privy Seal of Scotland.

In the past, the village of Broxburn revolved around its rich agricultural industry. Their thriving economy brought in an influx of workers and subsequently, an expanding population. Today, the village has 2 industrial areas – the East Mains Industrial Estate, and the Greendykes Industrial Estate. Its largest employers are the Broxburn Bottlers Ltd, the Glenmorangie, the Campbells Prime Meat Ltd, and the popular automotive company Kwik-Fit.
