Flower Delivery to Vale of Glamorgan: The Most Southerly Point in Wales

About 18 miles away from Cardiff is a place called the largely rural county called the Vale of Glamorgan, or simply The Vale. Nestled on the coast between Cardiff and Bridgend, The Vale boasts of around 33 miles of coastline which makes the place a must-visit destination for water lovers. A number of villages and hamlets comprise the county with the largest town being Barry. Other large towns in the county include Cowbridge, Dinas Powys, Llantwit Major, and Penarth.

History

The De Costentin family – one of the first Normal invaders of Wales – came to this area of Wales in the 12th century from the Cotentin peninsular in the north of France. They constructed a fortified manor house in the village of Cosmeston, located near what is now Penarth. The village they lived in grew around that house.
To the west is the hamlet of Clemenstone, a former seat of many high sheriffs of Glamorganshire, including one John Curre who occupied the estate in 1712. Lady Sale, wife of Sir Robert Sale, spent years of her life on the Clemenstone Estate.

The Vale of Glamorgan became part of South Glamorgan in 1974 following the Local Government Act 1972. This caused a number of problems due to conflicting interests and it eventually became a county borough in April 1996.
