HISTORY
The 13th/14th century saw Bannockburn be the site of a historic battle that changed the future of Scotland – the Battle of Bannockburn.
During the late 18th and early 19th centuries, the British Army got their tartans from the Wilson family who designed and wove these materials. The so-called Clan tartans were also created by the Wilsons as the Clan chiefs didn't have any authentic tartans and asked the family to make patterns for them. However, the family stopped operations in 1924.
When both Stirling and Bannockburn grew during the 19th and 20th centuries, Bannockburn was incorporated into the city of Stirling. The town also used to have a railway station right next to the site of the bus depot. Now, residents who wish to use the train need to travel to the centre of Stirling to do so.
