A small village and civil parish in Somerset, England, Yeovilton is located 1 mile east of Ilchester and five miles north of Yeovil. The village includes Podimore and the hamlets of Speckington and Bridgehampton.

Yeovilton is largely flat. It lies between 50 feet and 75 feet above sea level.

The village is the home of the RNAS Yeovilton, which is an airfield of the Royal Navy and one of two active Fleet Air Arm bases. Currently, it's the home of the Westland Lynx helicopters of the Royal Navy, as well as the Commando Helicopter Force Westland Sea King HC4.

HISTORY

In what is now an airfield, there is evidence of a Romano-British farmstead. The village is also located close to the route of the Fosse Way, which is a Roman road that linked Exeter in South West England to Lincoln in the East Midlands.

King Edward granted an estate in Yeovilton between 899 and 925. King Eadwig gave a further holding of five hides to Brithric between 955 and 959.

John Rogers was the lord of the manor in 1411. He also held the manor of Barwick. Henry Lyte inherited these by 1602. G. D. W. Digby of Sherborne Castle in Dorset purchased the holding in 1857. It remained with the Digby family until 1919.
