Flower Delivery to Nettlecombe with Somerset

Nettlecombe is a village and civil parish located in the southwestern county of Somerset in England. Nettlecombe is on the eastern side of this boot-shaped county. It's situated below the Brendon Hills, and has a small population of 174 people. It includes the Woodford, Yarde, and Torre Hamlets. There are many farms and scattered homes in this region.

This village is strictly residential and villagers must travel to the nearest village, Williton, to seek amenities.

Nettlecombe tends to rain more frequently than the rest of England, but it’s temperatures are milder. This region only gets a couple of weeks of snowfall in the winter, and benefits from the wind coming from northeastern side.

The village got its name from Nettlecombe Court, a manor house built during Elizabethan times. This manor was once the central part of the village. The manor was owned by Godwin, the son of King Harold, and was considered the property of the crown. In 1160 it was given to Hugh de Ralph. It was inherited by family, including John Trevelyan in 1481, and today is still owned by the successors of Hugh de Ralph. The estate includes the mansion, a medieval hall, an oak grove, a farm, and a church.

The manor still stands today, and is beside the Church of St. Mary the Virgin. The church was built sometime between the thirteenth and the fourteenth centuries. The church has seen various renovations throughout the years. It’s right in Nettlecombe Court. The church is considered a Grade I listed building. These structures are a combination of Elizabethan, Tudor, and Medieval architecture.

The park surrounding the manor is listed on the National Register of Historic Parks and Gardens. This park blends into the woodlands. This region of the county is studied by many scientists for its ecosystem and wildlife habitats.

Before the Norman Conquest, the village was a part of the Hundred of Williton and Freemanners or Freemanors. This was one of forty Hundreds in the history of Somerset. These hills are also considered to be a part of the Exmoor National Park.

The Brendon Hills are comprised of green grasses, green plants, shrubs, and trees, and rise to an elevation of 423 metres. Lype Hill is the highest at the 423 metre point. Older versions of the name included “Brunedun” and “Brundon”.

The Stogumber Festival is for the performing arts and occurs in September of this year, with free events and ticketed concerts. Performers are international and local. There are also creative writing and singing workshops.

The closest flower festival is at Glastonbury Abbey in Glastonbury, Somerset. They also hold garden planting events in the summer.
