Flower Delivery to Cricket St Thomas — A Lovely Village in Somerset
Cricket St Thomas is a small village and parish in South Somerset, England. Located in a valley between the towns of Crewkerne and Chard, this area is known for its manor house and estate, both of which have been featured in popular TV programmes in the past. Cricket St Thomas had an estimated population of 50 people in 2002 and an estimated population of 60 people in 2011.
Contrary to popular belief, the village isn't named after the popular sport of cricket. Rather, its name is derived from “cruc”, an Anglo-Saxon word that means “hill” or “ridge”. The parish church is dedicated to St. Thomas, a fact that influenced the village's name.
Cricket St Thomas — A History
Like many villages in the UK, Cricket St Thomas has been around for a long time. In 1086, it was mentioned in the Domesday Book, which described it as a part of the South Petherton hundred. According to the Book, the village had a taxable value of six geld units and had 13 households, with six villagers, five smallholders, and two slaves. It also had ploughlands, meadows, woodlands, and a mill. Count Robert of Mortain was mentioned as the village's tenant-in-chief at the time, with Turstin the sheriff as the lord in 1086 and Sheerwold of Gothers as the lord in 1066.
Cricket St Thomas in the Modern Times

One of these is the Cricket St Thomas manor house, which is also known as Cricket House. The manor became well-known when it was used as the setting for the TV series “To the Manor Born”, which ran from the late 1970s to the early 1980s. Currently, it's now known as the Cricket St. Thomas Hotel, which offers luxury accommodation as well as excellent dining and entertainment options.
While you're at the Cricket St Thomas manor house, make sure to explore its grounds. It was designed by D.D. Davis in the 19th century and, over the years, it became a wildlife park and even a theme park for Mr. Blobby, a character from the popular TV show Noel's House Party. Nowadays, the grounds have been restored and now feature lakes and woodland glades as well as formal gardens that showcase beautiful Cricket St Thomas flowers in spring.
