Flower Delivery to Bridgnorth with Clare Florist

Sitting high on a sandstone cliff, Bridgnorth is an inland town that has a wild history that has surely left its mark on the development of the area. Generally speaking, the town is divided into two parts: high town and low town.

Low Town was once a thriving port while High Town housed the castle, churches and many 16th and 17th century mansions.

With such scenic settings, there's no question that this place makes a wonderful romantic destination. Even Charles I himself exclaimed that the view here is “the finest in all my kingdom.” Of course, as with any romantic date, you can make it extra sweet by presenting your partner with some Bridgnorth flowers as you admire the wonderful views around you.

Apart from the romantic nature of the place, there are ships, pubs and lots of events to enjoy.

HISTORY

The town is named after the bridge over the River Severn, which is located further north than the bridge built at Quatford.

895 marks the earliest historical reference to the town. This was when the Danes set up camp at Cwatbridge.

William the Conqueror then granted the manor of Bridgnorth to Roger de Montgomorie after the Norman Conquest.

In 1101, the town was created when Robert of Belleme, 3rd Earl of Shrewsbury and the son of Roger de Montgomerie, constructed a castle and church. The purpose of the castle was to protect it against attacks from Wales.

The Royal Air Force's initial recruit training unit was stationed in town from 1939 until 1961.

Bridgnorth is twinned with Thiers, a French town, and Schrobenhausen in Germany.

Lots of flowers in Bridgnorth surround the area. The town has also won many awards for it. It was the recipient of five consecutive gold medals in the Britain in Bloom competition. It also won a silver in the European floral competition.
