Flower Delivery to The Royal Exchange Building: An Iconic London Landmark Well-worth a Visit
London is not only a centre of fashion but also of commerce, a city filled with famous landmarks, including the Royal Exchange. In existence since the 16th century, this site was founded by financier Thomas Gresham and has become one of the most famous architectures in this part of London.
Located in the Royal Exchange Square, it has also become the centre of commerce in the city, with no less than Queen Elizabeth I awarding the building its royal title as well as a licence to market alcohol when it officially opened in 1571. A perfect place to discover a colourful historical past, this attraction is also included in the itinerary of visitors while touring the city. Bustling with cafes, restaurants and luxurious, high-end stores, the square is also an ideal place to celebrate a romantic day with a loved one, highlighted with a surprise of flowers in Royal Exchange.
History
The Royal Exchange building is now the third construction since the two previous ones were engulfed in fire in 1666 and in 1838. The first structure was comprised of offices, shops and a trading floor, with the establishments located around an open courtyard which served as a meeting place of traders.
It was Charles II who laid the first foundation stone specifically for the second exchange to replace the one gutted in fire during the Great Fire of London. As a result of the efforts of brokers, the Royal Exchange built the foundations of a regulated stock market until the second fateful day, in 1838 when it was again destroyed by fire.
After the Second World War, trading activities ceased but the majestic structure remains to be a tourist attraction and a venue for the 24 panel paintings which depict the history of trade of Britain.
