Flower Delivery to Perthshire, A County with Awe-Inspiring Scenery in Central Scotland
Sir Walter Scott described Perthshire as “the fairest portion of the northern kingdom.” He was speaking the truth; the county is as beautiful today as it was during his time.
Who wouldn’t love the variety of breathtaking natural attractions Perthshire has to offer? It is a place blessed with forests, glens, moors, rivers, and waterfalls – all astounding in its beauty.
History of Perthshire
Perthshire includes a section of the Grampian Mountains, which the Romans penetrated but were unable to occupy successfully. Constant trouble with the Picts led them to withdraw from Britain.
After the Romans left, the Picts first established a capital at Abernethy then at Forteviot. When the Norsemen burned Forteviot in the 8th century, the Pictish government moved to Scone.
In the 9th century, the kingdom of Scots absorbed the kingdom of the Picts. The later part of the century saw Dunkeld become a site for monastic activity.
The Danes caused a lot of trouble in the land but they were defeated in 961 at Luncarty.
Siward, earl of Northumbria, invaded in 1054 and defeated Macbeth. Three years later, Macbeth’s own son ascended the throne as Malcom III. With his rise, Celtic rule of Scone came to an end.
Perth became the capital of Scotland in the 12th century and remained as such until 1452. From that point on, its history and that of the county were merged with a few exceptions, including the defeat of Robert de Bruce in 1306.

The Trees
Perthshire is called “Big Tree Country” and for good reason: you are never far away from one. Forests, gardens, and woodlands contain a variety of arboreal specimens, both young and old. Craigvinean is Scotland’s oldest managed forest, which grew from seeds planted by the Dukes of Atholl in the 18th and 19th centuries.
The Highlands
A visit here allows you to see some of the most iconic species of Scotland, including red deer stags and ospreys. Two of the most beautiful peaks to climb are Schiehallion and Ben Lawers.
The Gardens
You don’t need to go far to find colourful blooms in such a scenic county. Glendoick Gardens near Perth feature a fine collection of Perthshire flowers, including azaleas and rhododendrons. Blair Castle and Gardens in Blair Atholl not only offers a viewing of flowers in Perthshire but is also set in stunning scenery. Branklyn Garden in Perth may be small but features an impressive collection of plants, both rare and unusual.
