Flower Delivery to Inchyra with Clare Florist

Inchyra is a hamlet located in the Carse of Gowrie and council area of Perth and Kinross in Scotland. The Carse of Gowrie features low lying fields, many of them with bright green grass. It stretches about 32 kilometres along the river Tay. Inchyra is located 47 miles from Edinburgh. It’s on the north side of the river Tay. There have been many archaeological finds in this region. The A90 brings commuter access to town. Inchyra is located close to Perth, Dundee, and St. Madoes.

Part of the name of Inchyra means “island” from the Celtic word “innis”. Many of the villages located in the Carse of Gowrie have a portion of the word “innis” in their name. In the past, it’s believed that Inchyra was originally on an island. As the glacial period melted, and then receded, the hamlet became a part of the main body of land. It’s believed that the first settlers on Inchyra moved there when it was an island.

The first baron of Inchyra was Frederick Millar. He was a British diplomat, who served as Ambassador to Germany in the 1950s. In 1962, he was raised to the peerage of Baron of Inchyra of St. Madoes, in the county of Perth. His daughter Dame Annabel Whitehead became a lady-in-waiting to the Queen.

Much of Inchrya is surrounded by farmland, and what isn’t consists of clay. In the past Inchyra had a large apple orchard, but this has long seen been gone. There were many unique varieties of apples that grew in the region, that are now lost. The region is still popular for agriculture though. Strawberries, raspberries, and other types of fruit are grown here. Fruit grows well due to its southern positioning and lower rainfall.

A special archaeological artifact has been found in this hamlet, and is called the Inchyra stone. This is a type of Pictish stone, with carvings done by the Picts. This stone is covered in symbols, a double disc, mirror, comb, fish, serpents, and Ogham inscription. The Inchyra stone is now on display at the Perth Museum.

Other notable finds in Inchyra include Roman antiquities. In 1993, eight Roman coins were found. These are also located in the Perth Museum. A Roman brooch was also found in river silt. It had a blue enamel inlay. This item can also be found at the museum.
