Flower Delivery to Porthgain with Clare Florist

Those who frequently visit Wales most likely have heard of Porthgain, a village in Pembrokeshire that's on the north coast of St. David's Peninsula and is a part of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park. Porthgain, which used to be a port for industrial purposes but is now mainly used for fishing and leisure activities, got its name from the Welsh term for “beautiful port”.

Porthgain's Past

As mentioned above, Porthgain used to be known as a rich industrial harbour. From 1850 to 1910, it exported slate, which was quarried in nearby Abereiddi and Trwynllwyd and even in Porthgain itself. To support this trade, water-powered mills (which were used to saw slate slabs before they were shipped) were put up in the village, and a tramway network was built to connect Porthgain with quarries located in neighboring areas.

Slate trading was later abandoned, but Porthgain remained profitable because the residents were able to branch out to other industries. They turned to brickmaking in the late 1800s to early 1900s and used waste materials from the slate preparation process to create bricks. They also began making crushed dolerite (which was used in road construction) in 1889 to 1931. Large buildings called brick hoppers were built to store crushed dolerite before they were shipped, and these structures are still around today and are considered to be a nationally important archeological site.

Relaxing in Porthgain

Porthgain might not be the first destination that comes to mind when you plan a holiday in Wales, but it should be. By visiting this pretty and picturesque village, you'll get to know more about the country's history while enjoying the beauty of nature.

To get your trip off to a good start, you might want to explore the route from Porthgain to Abereiddy. This was named by The Guardian as one of the top nature walks in the UK in 2010, which isn't really surprising since it gives you access to some of the most breathtaking vistas in the area. By taking this route, you'll come across lots of pretty flowers and other types of interesting flora and meet a wide range of wildlife (including local birds called choughs, which are known for their bright red legs and breaks). Once you reach the top of the high, zigzagging cliffs, you'll get to see fantastic views of the sea and even observe porpoises as well as a type of seabirds called gannets playing in the waters. The walk also brings you close to the historical local buildings that were used in the quarry trade and lets you marvel at their architecture.

Aside from going on a nature hike, you can visit the art galleries in the village and take the time to enjoy beautiful paintings from contemporary artists. You can also go kayaking to explore the coast or build sand castles on the beach with your kids.

If you have friends and family members who live in the village, make sure to send flowers to Porthgain on their birthdays and during special occasions like Mothers' Day and Valentine's Day. By doing this, you'll show that they're always on your mind and express your love and care for them. Don't worry since ordering flowers for delivery to Porthgain is easy when you get our help.
