Flower Delivery to Llantood with Clare Florist

Llantood is a parish and hamlet in the Cilgerran community. It's on the northern part of Pembrokeshire in Wales, three miles south-west of the town of Cardigan and located near the hamlets of Bridell and Mornington. The hamlet is mostly an agricultural area and consists of a few houses and farms. It might not be as modern as the major cities in Wales but, if you're looking for a peaceful and relaxing place where you can escape urban noise and pollution, you won't go wrong with spending some time in this hamlet.

Experts believe that there have been settlements in Llantood since prehistoric times, as evidenced by the remains of fortifications in certain parts of the hamlet. In the 12th century, it was occupied by the Normans, who built castles in several locations. These castles are no longer standing today, although the remains of a motte and a bailey can be seen at the Castell Penyrallt.

The name of the hamlet's parish church has changed over the years. In 1293, was mentioned as “Langetot” in the Taxatio Ecclesiastica in 1293 and, in 1513, it was called Langettod in the St David's episcopal register. Later on, it was named Llantood (or Llantwyd in Welsh), which is thought to be derived from “Illtyd”, the name of a saint to whom the hamlet's parish church is now dedicated.

Llantood was included in A Topographical Dictionary of Wales in 1833 and was described as “a parish in the hundred of Kilgerran” with “281 inhabitants” and generally pleasing scenery. Several years later in 1870, it was mentioned in Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales as “a parish in the district of Cardigan” with a population of 264 people and 61 houses.

As mentioned above, Llantood is a great destination if you want to escape the city and enjoy some peace and quiet. You can stay in Llantood Farm, a 200-acre working farm that offers self-catering accommodation. Here, you can explore the woodland and open fields, observe the local wildlife, and interact with the farm animals. You can also sit in the private garden, where you can marvel at the colours of Llantood flowers during springtime or enjoy the views of the Preseli mountains and the Cilgerran Castle in the distance.

While you're in the hamlet, make sure to visit the parish church, which was built in 1884. It had replaced an earlier church that was built in 1820, and it's believed that a 13th century church once stood on the spot where the current church stands. You can also explore Penralltddu, a Victorian farmhouse that was built in 1861, and Tredefaid, a farmhouse that was built in the 17th century and is now a Grade II listed building.
