Flower Delivery to Towersey A Beautiful Village in Oxfordshire

Towersey is a village and civil parish that’s on the north-eastern part of the South Oxfordshire district and is almost two miles away from the city of Thame. It’s located near the Oxfordshire county boundary and is in the centre of the crossroads made by Church Lane, Manor Road, Thame Road, and Chinnor Road. Towersey contains mostly 20th century homes — although there are older properties dotted around the village — and it has a small population, totalling to 433 as of the 2011 census.

A Short History of Towersey

In the 11th century, Towersey was simply called “Eia”, which means “island”. In fact, it was referred to as “Eia” in the Domesday Book of 1086. The name evolved over the years; records written in the middle of 13th century showed that the village was called “Turrisey” and “Tureseye”. These words meant “the island of de Turs” or “the island held by the de Turs family”, referring to Richard de Turs and his family, who held the manor in the middle of the 1200s. The village’s name eventually became Towersey.

In the 14th century, some of the village came under the ownership of the Abbot of the Church of Thame. This changed when the Thame Abbey was dissolved in the 1500s and the church-owned lands in Towersey were given to the Dean and Chapter of Oxford. The lands changed hands again after the Civil War in 1669, when the Parliament seized control of them and handed them over to Sir Edmond Pye. In the 1900s, James Whitehorse became the Lord of the manor, with Thomas Alfred Grange and Phillip James Digby Wykeham as chief landowners in the village.

Towersey Today

Towersey has grown into a lively and vibrant village with an active community and various village events. It’s an excellent place to visit if you want to take a break from work and get away from the city.

When you’re in the village, make sure to visit St. Catherine's Church, which is believed to have been built in the 12th century. Although the church has gone through restorations, it has retained several of its original parts, such as its 13th century chancel, 14th century nave, and 19th century bell tower. You can also drop by the Towersey Manor, which was constructed in the 19th century from flint and brick. The manor has a nuttery, out-buildings, and various barns as well as expansive gardens that feature colourful Towersey flowers during spring and summer.

If you time your visit right, you can catch the Towersey Festival, which takes place in the last week of August. It’s an event that focuses on dance and folk music and attracts many talented artists as well as hundreds of festival goers every year. Listen to singers and musicians and, afterwards, attend various workshops that teach ukelele, Scandinavian dancing, and even firewalking!

If you’re in the village with your loved ones, you’ll want to send flowers to Towersey to delight your mum, wife, or girlfriend and make your trip more memorable. We specialize in flowers in Towersey and can provide you with gorgeous blooms and bouquets of your choice.
