Flower Delivery to Hatford with Clare Florist

In the county of Oxfordshire in England is one non-metropolitan district known as Vale of White Horse. Located between River Thames and Berkshire Downs, this district has 68 civil parishes, including Abingdon, Wantage and Faringdon. Some of the villages are Hatford, Shekingford and Backland, among others. Also referred to as the Valley of Ock, the Vale is separated from the Upper Thames by a low ridge on the North and the contrasting view of the summits of Berkshire Downs on the South.

Hatford is a village of only 1,000 acres with two parish churches. As of present time, one was converted into private residence. Although relatively small, this village is a beautiful sight of dainty houses, trees and greens. A walk on a sunny day while holding Hatford flowers for your lady sure makes a romantic rendezvous.

History

According to records, the first evidence of human existence in the area was the discovery of a spearhead unearthed near the Hat River. It was said to date back to the Bronze Age. The district of Vale of White Horse, however, was established on 1 April 1974.

The only town in the centre of Vale is Wantage, amidst prime horse racing county. Notable figures born here include King Alfred the Great, Thomas William Shore and Joseph Butler, a well known author.

Landmarks

Since one of the two churches was sold, the other one, St. George was rebuilt and opened as a place of worship in 1972. There are also interesting places to see near the village, particularly the Vale of White Horse. One of the must-see sights of the valley is a prehistoric figure measuring 108 miles long is the Uffington White Horse which can be found at the slopes of a 261-metre elevation known as the White Horse Hill. The interesting horse figure emerged from deep trenches filled with white chalked crushed into pieces.

Another site tourists should not pass off visiting is Wayland’s Smithly. This is one of the most impressive burial chambers in Britain and found at the East of Ashbury, Oxfordshire. This long barrow is reported to have existed since 855 AD. It was first built as a wooden mortuary structure with stone floors and is also called Wayland Smithly’s cave.

Lastly, the Uffington Castle, a hill fort in Oxfordshire, is another landmark to explore. It contains an ancient track known as The Ridgeway. It is also a Scheduled Ancient Monument taken care of by the English Heritage.

Events

Children are free to fly their kites and roll over the hill if they fancy. Come August 30th and 31st, local and foreign tourists alike can join a free event to experience the magnetism of the valley. People can help in the maintenance and upkeep of the famed White Horse figure by helping with chalking it up. It is truly an activity worth looking forward to. In October, you can also experience a free guided walk tour of the White Horse Hill, down to Ashdown.

If you are fortunate enough to have relatives residing here and willing to tour you around, you can send flowers in Hatford to thank them for this gesture.
