A parish church (in English parish church) of the Church of England is a proper Christian place of worship in England.
Church of England -The parish church is the heart of the parish, that is to say, the first hierarchical level of the Church of England. Since the nineteenth century, the term "parish church" is also used to avoid confusion with the civil parish. Although the parish churches of the Roman Catholic Church also exist in England, the reference to a "parish church" without further specification usually refers to a church dedicated to the Anglican worship.
Most parishes have a parish church, which is often an ancient monument. Sometimes, however, in the absence of an existing church, the bishop of the diocese means a non-dedicated building to dedicate to worship; then we use the term centre of parish worship (parish centre of worship).
The parish is now part of the Benefice of Shill Valley and Broadshire, which includes also the parishes of Alvescot, Broadwell, Broughton Poggs, Filkins, Holwell, Kelmscott, Kencot, Langford, Little Faringdon, Shilton and Westwell.

Bourton Place was the manor house of the Hungerford family. It was demolished in about 1800. The village school was designed by the architect Sir George Gilbert Scott and built in 1865.
