Flower Delivery to Nottingham: An Ideal City Break Destination

While peaceful and relaxing holidays are best spent in the countryside, Nottingham is making a case for visiting a city for a mini break. With lots of options for culture and shopping, what’s not to enjoy in this Nottinghamshire city?

Some of the best shopping in the UK can be found on the streets of Nottingham. You’ll never go hungry with the variety of restaurants and bars that dot the city. Plus, the combination of pedestrianised streets and a tram system make exploring that much easier.

History

Anglo-Saxons occupied a sandstone hill that commanded a crossing of the Trent in the 6th century. They colonized the area located by the river and called their settlement Snotingaham, which means the ham or village of Snot’s people.

The Danes occupied the area in the 9th century, and the community became one of the five Danelaw towns.

A borough was founded beside the older Saxon town by new rulers after the Norman Conquest in 1066. The two settlements were administered differently until around 1300.

A marketplace was established in the small valley located between the Norman and Saxon settlements. Covering 5.5 acres, the old marketplace remains one of the major features of Nottingham with many shops and a central area reserved for pedestrians.

The textile industry was responsible for much of Nottingham’s fortunes during the Industrial Revolution, becoming an international centre of lace manufacture.

Nottingham Castle on Standard Hill marks the Old Saxon town.
