Flower Delivery to Wollaston – A Village and Civil Parish in Northamptonshire
The village of Wollaston lies in the Nene Valley in East Northamptonshire. It is located close to the border of Bedfordshire and is to the east of the A509. A Northamptonshire village, Wollaston is also known for shoemaking. In fact, the popular Dr Matens boots were manufactured in the village until 2003.
HISTORY
Developed as a linear settlement, Wollaston started at what is now known as Cobbs Lane towards Bell End, Rotten Row, St Michaels' Lane and Strixton. The village was occupied as early as the Roman times, evidenced by the remains of a Romano British vineyard.
The discovery of a Saxon-style iron helmet proved that Wollaston was occupied by the Saxons. Plus, it is believed that the name of the village comes from “Wulflaf's Town” with Wulflaf being the name of a Saxon chief.
A castle, Beacon Hill, was built in Wollaston during the Medieval Period. Beacon Hill was a motte and bailey structure. Under act of parliament, the village was enclosed in 1788 thus reducing the number of landowners from 108 to 18.
The 19th century saw the opening of the first school in Wollaston. Industry also arrived in the village during his century, particularly shoemaking and farming.
Today, Wollaston has a primary and secondary school, local shops, post office, library and public houses. There are four churches in the village as well: Anglican, Baptist, Methodist and a Salvation Army Citadel. A museum located on the north end of High Street showcases what life in Wollaston is like.
ATTRACTIONS

Curiosity Cottage – an 18th-century labourer's cottage and barn. It used to hold artefacts demonstrating domestic life but now features a display of farming implements and bicycles.
Beacon Hill – lying in the centre of Wollaston, this motte castle is located to the south of the church. This is the oldest visible part of the village.
Wollaston Pocket Park – was a dark and enclosed walled garden that was transformed into a space for the public to enjoy. The park wasn't intended to be a formal park, rather it's meant to be a natural environment where wildlife can thrive. Here, you'll find Wollaston flowers, shrubs and trees.
