HISTORY
The village of Braunston has a rich and varied history – from its start as a farming community to its rise as a key centre in the canal network of Britain.
To accommodate a growing population, the Church of All Saints was rebuilt in 1849. It's located on the site of a previous church and the stone from that 14th-century church was used to build the new one along with red sand stone. The parapets, aisles and tower spire are made of grey Weldon stone. The church rises to 150 feet and features a crocketed spire and dominates the surrounding countryside. In fact, views of the church are possible from all directions.
Formed to link the Coventry Canal at Longford via Branbury to Oxford, the Oxford Canal was built in 1768 and by 1774 it followed a path through Ruby and Hillmorton to Braunston. The canal came to the entrance of the current Marina and took a sharp right and continued along to Napton.
