Located in the north-east of England, Marton-in-Cleveland (or just Marton) sits within the boundaries of the Middlesbrough unitary authority which is part of the county of North Yorkshire. There are a few attractions within Marton and that includes Stewart Park, a large public park that was given to the residents of Middlesbrough by Dormund Stewart – a councillor – in 1928.
HISTORY
Built from the 1950s onwards, Marton used to extend down to the River Tees. When Middlesbrough expanded, the place became much smaller. The suburb of Marton was built around a village of the same name. Today, the village stands within the Middlesbrough unitary authority boundary which is located in the county of North Yorkshire.

The two lakes within the park is where you can see Canada and greylag geese, moorhens, coots and different types of duck. Within the park are a couple of domesticated animals such as fallow deer, highland cattle, llamas, goats, peacocks, pheasants, rabbits and guinea pigs.
The park features various nature, heritage, orienteering and tree trails which are popular with school visits. There are fun things for children at the park too like play areas; one in particular has a climbing frame named after the Endeavour, the ship of Captain James Cook who was born in Marton.
Stewart Park also plays host to several events, one of which is the Northern Dales Farmers Market which has been held monthly since April 2014. The visitor centre of the park is host to a craft fair as well. During the summer, the park hosts the Cleveland Show as well as gypsy fairs.
Also located within the park are several listed buildings including the temple and loggia.
The cottage where Captain Cook was born was located in the park, but that building is long gone. However, there is a pink granite urn that marks the approximate site where it once stood.
