Flower Delivery to Hudswell — A Beautiful Village in North Yorkshire

Hudswell is a village and civil parish in Richmondshire, North Yorkshire. It has been described as a “roadside village” which, according to Thomas Wilfred Sharp, is a string of indiscriminately arranged houses, inns, shops, and other buildings. Hudswell is located south of the River Swale and three miles west of Richmond, which is its nearest town. It might not be as popular as other tourist destinations in North Yorkshire but, for those who are looking for a quiet and relaxing place, this is the perfect spot.

Taking a Peek into Hudswell's History

Hudswell's name is said to be taken from the Old English words “Hudel” (which is a personal name) and “wella” (which means “spring or stream”), so it means “Hudel's spring/stream”. The village was mentioned in the Domesday Book in 1086 as having a land value of £0.8 and a taxable value of 6 geld units, which was larger than other settlements. At the time, its tenant-in-chief was Count Alan of Brittany and its lord was Enisant Musard.

Hudswell was mentioned in the Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales in the 1870s. It was described as a township in Catterick parish with its own church and national school and, at the time, it had 56 houses and a population of 249 people.

Hudswell in the Modern Day

The population of Hudswell had risen and decreased over time but, as of 2011,  it had a population of 353 people and 152 households. With its uncrowded spaces and relaxing ambiance, it's a great haven for those who'd like to escape the crowds and spend time in a peaceful and quiet place.

If you're planning to spend your holiday in Hudswell, take the time to explore  the local attractions and marvel at the village's raw beauty. Take a walk through Hudswell Woods, where you can enjoy Hudswell flowers and other local flora, watch birds as they flit by, and or have a picnic by the river. You can also take part in events that are held in the woods, such as geocaching and den building, and learn new skills while meeting new people.

You can also visit St Michael and All Angels, which was built in the late 1800s and is located on the western part of the village. A sister church of St Mary's in Richmond, it serves Hudswell and the surrounding farms and is a venue for community events. If you're lucky, you might chance upon one of these events and have the opportunity to interact with the locals.

Planning to visit Hudswell for a special occasion with family and friends? Find ways to make your holiday more special!
