Flower Delivery to North Somerset with Clare Florist

North Somerset is an area in England on the southern side of the country. It’s located in the top left part of Somerset county, and is a unitary authority. Over 211,000 people live in this region. Its town hall is located in Weston-super-Mare, a large seaside town on the Bristol Channel. North Somerset borders other governmental areas, including Bath, Bristol, North East Somerset, Mendip, and Sedgemoor. This district covers over 380 square kilometres.

During the 19th century Bristol found that modern ships couldn’t reach its narrow river approach to the port. The Port of Bristol company searched for new locations along the coastline. The first new dock was built at Portishead Dock, which was a coal transport destination from South Wales. Eventually this port outgrew the demand, and now the Royal Portbury Dock handles a large volume of car imports arriving into the country.

North Somerset had a different name from 1974 to 1996. Back then it was called Woodspring district in the county of Avon. It was named after Woodspring Priory, with an old medieval church on the coast near Weston-super-Mare. In 1996 it was proposed to call the area North West Somerset, before council settled on the North Somerset name. In 2005 it was challenged that the name was never legally changed, but a resolution passed to counter any doubt.

There are many towns and parishes within the district, but the major ones are the coastal towns of Clevedon, Nailsea, Portishead, and Weston-super-Mare. Nailsea is mostly a commuter town with residents heading to the other towns to work.

North Somerset has been a popular spot for visitors since the Georgian era. Weston-super-Mare started out as a small village and then grew into a large resort town. There are many natural features of interest here. Besides tourism, the region relies on agriculture. There are sheep and dairy farming companies, and the growing of crops.

St. Paul’s Church is located on the coastal region called Sand Bay, within a small civil parish called Kewstoke. There is the notable ancient Monk’s Steps that lead from the church and into the woods on Monk’s Hill. There are also artifacts from the Iron Age found here.

Not to be confused with the other St. Paul’s Church, once a year the St. Paul’s Church in Clevedon hosts a bank holiday flower festival. This year’s event featured floral arrangements designed around famous songs. It was a three day event, with lunch, a celebration church service, and musicians providing entertainment.

Gordano Valley is a preserved region on the coastline of North Somerset. It’s a designated National Nature Reserve. Gordano means “muddy valley”. This valley runs from northeast to southwest through the district. There are also several smaller sites in the valley that are protected nature reserves.
