Flower Delivery to Caston with Clare Florist

Back in 2013, twelve homeowners opened their gardens to benefit the Church, the Village Hall and the East Anglian Air Ambulance. Caston flowers decorated the church while tea and lunch were served at the Village Hall during the weekend. That is just one of the few events the village hosts for its hosts in a year. Caston also has a gardening group called the Greenfingers where everything from various plants to flowers in Caston are discussed.

An agricultural village located 18 miles south-west of Norwich, the capital city of Norfolk, Caston is a place where the main industry is arable farming. Although there might be nothing much to see in town, those who love to visit a charming place for a holiday can do no wrong in stopping by Caston.

HISTORY

Caston is where Edward Gilman, a prosperous yeoman of Welsh descent, used to live. He died in 1573, and his son Robert moved to Hingham, Norfolk. Robert's son Edward got caught up in the Puritan movement which was sweeping parts of Norfolk, and as a result, moved to the Massachusetts Bay Colony in North America.

Puritan sympathies ran in the family. Thomas Lincoln, the son of Edward's sister Bridget, who married Edward Lincoln, moved from Norfolk to Massachusetts with his aunt, Mary Gilman Jacob. Thomas' brother, Samuel, followed soon after and from that line descended Abraham Lincoln, the 16th president of the United States.

While some of the Gilman family prospered in America, some remained in England and eventually produced tow mayors of Norwich: Charles Suckling and his son, Sir Charles Rackham Gilman.

ATTRACTIONS

At the centre of Caston is its green, which is surrounded by a great group of structures, including the school, the Red Lion public house and the Church of the Holy Cross.

Red Lion – Caston's public house. It's family run and friendly where you can get a glass of lemonade or eat a home-made meal. The pub also serves Real Ales, and the options change regularly. Additionally, a selection of fine wines are also served at the pub.

Church of the Holy Cross – this is said to date back to the 14th century. The present building, however, is built in flint with stone quoins and dressings. It consists of a nave, chancel, western tower and north porch.
