HISTORY
The name Blay most likely comes from the Old Norse Blábýr, which means farmstead or village belonging to a man named Blár. Records from the Blaby Library state a different origin for the name, though. According to records, the origin of the name of the village comes from the first vicar.

EXPLORING BLABY
Much of the village of Blaby is designated as a conservation area. In Glen Parva, which is just nearby, you can enjoy walking through a trail around the remains of an old Saxon settlement. You can also follow The River Soar and Grand Union Canal all the way up to the Leicester city centre – you can do all this while still being surrounded by green parkland.
At Kirby Muxloe, which is located further west, you can find a 15th century castle that was never completed. It was started by William Lord Hastings in 1480, but Richard III beheaded him for treason and his castle was never finished. Although the castle is closed, it is visible from The Castle pub next door.
In the southern part of Blasby is Stoney Cove, which is near the village of Stoney Stanton. It is a popular place for those who enjoy diving. The area used to be a working quarry until 1958. Now, it's one of the main destinations in the UK for those who like scuba diving. It has a depth of more than 30 metres and lying beneath the surface is a submarine and the largest inland shipwreck in the UK.
TWIN VILLAGE
Blaby is a twin to the village of Villers-sous-Saint-Leu in France.
