Flower Delivery to Wateringbury, Kent with Clare Florist

Wateringbury is a village with long history located very close to Maidstone in Kent . This is an area that played significant role in the history of England. Its name has Anglo-Saxon roots and as it suggests it is linked to water and fortifications which means that it was an important place in the past. Although Wateringbury was mentioned in the famous Domesday Book written in 1086, this village was also documented in a will in 10th century and in an obligation that dates back in the 11th century (Textus Roffensis).

In the 11th century this village included two manors owned by Anglo-Saxons, but few decades later Normans took control of this part of Kent. At this time there were more than 150 people living in this village which means that it was one of the bigger settlements in this area. What is interesting is that even back then this village was served by three mills and two of them are still visible in the village.

In the medieval period four medieval manors developed in this area. In the 20th century, the two world wars had a strong impact on this village – the WWI left took the lives of 12% of the population (volunteers) and the WWII forced the children to learn in other school due to bombings. Today, Wateringbury has more than 2.000 inhabitants.

Wateringbury is located just 44 miles southeast of London and it takes about 90 minutes to get there by car via A13.
