The setting is great for a romantic getaway too, and if that's the case, make sure to get your date some Corrimony flowers to set the right tone. Passing through Corrimony is the River Enrick which flows down to Glenurquhart and into Loch Ness. The River Enrick flows over Corrimony Falls, a waterfall located to the south of the settlement.

To the south is an upland area owned by the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds. Covering 1531 hectares, the site is run as Corrimony nature reserve. The RPSB acquired the site in 1997 and are working on restoring the Caledonian Forest for the benefit of Black Grouse.

ATTRACTIONS

There are a few nice attractions in Corrimony which you'll enjoy, especially if you're into history and the outdoors. Of course, if you're planning the former, don't forget to get some flowers in Corrimony to present to your date.

All that said, here's a look at what you can find at Corrimony:

Corrimony Chambered Cairn – with a passage still intact, Corrimony is considered as an unusual cairn, but nonetheless a very impressive Clava-style cairn. And just like other Clave-style cairns, Corrimony has a large circular chamber that has a passageway pointing towards the position of the moonset at the southern minor standstill of the moon. A circle of standing stones surround the cairn.

Since the stones look to be disturbed, there's no telling exactly how many were there originally. As of now, there are 12 stones standing and one of those on the north-west portion of the circle has a number of cup marks on the external face.

A large slab heavily decorated with cup marks lies on the body of the cairn. It is believed that this formed a capstone to the central chamber during the time the cairn was still intact. However, there is a theory that it could have been another stone that stood in the circle.

Excavated in 1952, the Corrimony cairn features traces of a crouched burial in the intact floor of the cairn.

Urquhart Castle – with stunning views over Loch Ness, you get a taste of the Highlands at their most dramatic. You'll also see what medieval life was like as you look into the prison cell and great hall.

Nearby Attractions

Balnuaran of Clava – these are chambered cairns and are located about 40 kilometres away.

Invereen Pictish Stone – a Class I Pictish Symbol Stone found 41 kilometres away.
