Flower Delivery to Ickleford — A Beautiful Village in North Hertfordshire
Ickleford is a large, idyllic village in North Hertfordshire. It's situated just north of the market town of Hitchin and stands at the western bank of the River Hiz. Because of its size and strategic location, it's the perfect choice for those who are looking for a holiday destination that provides lots of activities for people to enjoy but also has plenty of opportunities for quiet and peaceful times.
Ickleford and Its Past
Ickleford got its name from Icknield Way (an ancient trackway that stretched from Norfolk to Wiltshire and crossed the River Thames) and the Old English word, “ford” which meant “a way to cross a river”. It wasn't mentioned in the 1086 Domesday Book, although the book did mention Hitchin (the nearest town to Ickleford), which was said to have 103 households at the time and a tax value of 5 geld units.
Part of Ickleford belonged to Bedfordshire until the Counties (Detached Parts) Act 1844 transferred the Bedfordshire portion to Hertfordshire. The village was mentioned in the Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales by John Marius Wilson, who noted that the area had 110 houses and a population of 546 people and had its own church, national school, and Wesleyan chapel.
Ickleford in the Modern Day
Ickleford remains to be a vibrant community nowadays, making it a great holiday destination for those who want to relax in a peaceful and engaging village. If you plan to go on a trip to Ickleford, make sure to visit St Katharine's Church, which is inspired by the 12th century Norman architecture style and has beautiful stained glass windows and eye-catching carved zigzag arches. Take the time to marvel at its ancient beauty while learning about Henry Boswell, who was known as the King of Gypsies and was buried in the church.
If you'd like to get some exercise and enjoy outdoor adventures, check out the Icknield Way Trail. Here, you can go for relaxing strolls with your family and friends and spend time marvelling at the Ickleford flowers and other flora. You can also use the trail for horse riding and off-road cycling. Afterwards, head off to the Sports and Recreation Ground — where you can watch athletes playing cricket, football, or squash — and drop by the Ickleford Equestrian & Pony Club Centre to observe both newbies and seasoned riders go through their routines with their steeds.
Of course, take the time to visit the North Hertfordshire Museum. Here, you'll learn more about the area's history (from the Neolithic Period right up to the First World War and beyond) and get a deeper understanding of the local culture.
If you're visiting Ickleford with your family and friends, don't forget to make small but meaningful gestures that will make your holiday more interesting and memorable! For instance, if you're holidaying with your wife or girlfriend, why not buy flowers in Ickleford and give them to her as a surprise?
