History
Ashmansworth has been occupied as early as the Iron Age based on findings from excavations at Church Farm. Excavations at Ashmansworth Parish Church in the 19th century unveiled some interesting artefacts from the Roman times and are now displayed in the church. The village’s connection to pre-Roman period is not surprising given its not far from the Oxdrove prehistoric route, an ancient cattle drove route.
Although much of the village’s records were destroyed in a fire in 1811, recent records indicate that population has always been small. The records also showed that the residents were labourers.
