Flower Delivery to Uxbridge by Clare Florist

Uxbridge is a large town in west London, England and serves as the administrative headquarters of the London Borough of Hillingdon. For such a large town, Uxbridge never quite makes it to the front page of newspapers around the country. In fact, it's relatively quiet, and this reason could be why Mafia boss Domenico Rancadore chose to call the town home when he fled Sicily in 1995.

Other than being known for this bit of history, the town is also known for its good transport connections. It is just five minutes from the M40, ten minutes from the M25, and 15 minutes from the M4 and Healthrow.

The name of the town is derived from “Wixan's Bridge” which was located near the bottom of Oxford Road – a site where a modern bridge now stands – beside the Swan and Bottle public house.

It was the Anglo-Saxons who settled and farmed in the area during the 5th century. Artefacts from the Bronze Age as well as medieval remains were found in the area when The Chimes shopping centre was constructed.

The town was garrisoned by the Parliamentary Army in 1642 during the outbreak of the English Civil War, and this was where they established their headquarters.

Uxbridge became linked with Birmingham when the Grand Junction Canal was opened in 1794. By 1800, the town become of the most important market towns in Middlesex. However, the development of the town declined after the Great Western Railway opened in 1838.

The town experienced rapid growth during the 20th century after the arrival of the railways. This led to the extensive building of houses during the 1920s and 1930s.

The amenities in the town are really good. There are two shopping centres, namely the Pavilions and Intu Uxbridge, filled with high-street names and a few independents in historic Windsor Street.

The Royal Air Force station known as RAF Uxbridge was functional until it was closed in 2010. It's built within the grounds of Hillingdon House, which is a 19th century mansion bought by the British Government in 1915.

Fassnidge Park – This is a popular open space located right in the heart of Uxbridge. It is a traditional Edwardian formal park that covers four acres which offers a bowling green, tennis courts, a playground, and skate parks. It is also a venue for seeing some Uxbridge flowers thanks to the addition of bright new flower beds.

Stockley Country Park – This is just located five minutes from Heathrow Airport. It also serves as a golf course and also offers one of the best views in the area. Thanks to innovative landscaping, it's one of the best places for people to just relax and unwind. The park is also a place to see some wild flowers in Uxbridge.

Uxbridge Common – This is a site that spans five acres and attracts a wide range of faunal wildlife including invertebrates and birds. Whether you want to send flowers to Uxbridge or buy in the town yourself, this place is one good example where you can spend a day with a partner.
