Kensal Green, more commonly known as Kensal Rise, is an area of London which is one of the most vibrant cities of England. Kensal Green is present on the southern edge of the London Borough of Brent. Kensal Green borders Wormwood scrubs and Notting Hill to the south, Queens Park and Maida Hill to the east, Harlesden to the west and Willesden to the north.

Kensal Green has been relatively popular through the history with people working in the creative industries and is a hub of independent coffee shops and boutiques. The area of Kensal Rise has many transport link tracing it back to the metropolitan cities such as London itself.

Kensal Rise was originally part of one of the ten manors within the district of Willesden. This area was first mentioned in 1253. The name of this settlement has been derived from the masterpiece of literature, Old English, and means King’s Holt or King’s Wood. The Archbishop of Canterbury endowed All Souls College, Oxford he founded with lands he acquired in Willesden and Kingsbury. This was done in the 15th Century, laying the first brick of an educational settlement.

After the construction of the Great Western Railway, major carriage servicing facilities and a locomotive depot in the Old Oak Common, Kensal Rise began to grow popular with each passing day. Around 1904 a slump in the housing market slowed down the progress of Kensal Rise. However, the movement of immigrants in this area in 1960 and 1970’s gave a new life to Kensal Rise and the area flourished. Kensal Green is still rising in the matters of popularity in the past few years because of its beautiful architecture and transport links.

The biggest landmark is the Kensal Green Cemetery. It is one of the ‘Magnificent Seven’ cemeteries in the borough. This cemetery is artistically designed and attracts more tourists than any other benchmark in Kensal Rise. This cemetery is the resting place for members of the royal family such as HRH Prince George Duke of Cambridge.

Queens Park is bordering Kensal Rise and is maintained by the City of London. It has six tennis courts, a pitch and putt course, a playground and a children’s café. This park is a great place which attracts tourists as well as provides with a picnic place to the inhabitants.

The Actor’s Night for Kensal Rise is going to be held in the month of February where many local actors and writers will perform readings followed by a raffle. These stars will take questions from the public. This is a great initiative in terms of promoting the habit of reading and writing and hence, educations as a whole.
