Flower Delivery to Belgravia with Clare Florist
Belgravia is one of the most famous districts in central London. It is part of the City of Westminster and the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. In the past few decades, this area is known for the high price of the real estate properties found there. Many people consider this to be one of the most elite districts in the United Kingdom. Even the name suggests the royal origin of this district.
Belgravia got the name based on one of the titles of the Duke of Westminster. The Duke of Westminster is also the Viscount of Belgrave hence the name Belgravia. Although human presence in this area was recorded centuries ago, Belgravia became a highly developed area in the beginning of the 19th century thanks to Richard Grosvenor – the 2nd Marquess of Westminster. He owned this area and hired Thomas Cubitt a famous builder from Norfolk, to design and build the entire area. Until the World War II many aristocrats used to use the large houses and townhouses as residences, but after the war many of the large buildings were used as charity headquarters, embassies etc. Today the trend of redesigning of these houses for residential use is growing. Millionaires from around the world have properties in this famous London district.
Attractions
Belgrave square
This is the central square in Belgravia. It was one of the most spectacular and largest squares in the 19th century. The square itself and the surrounding area were truly amazing. There were four terraces on it and each of these terraces had private gardens and white stuccoed houses.
St. Peter’s Church, Eaton Square
St. Peter’s church was built in the time when Thomas Cubitt was reshaping the look of London. It was originally finished in 1827, but around 50 years later the area it covered was expanded. In 1987 the church was damaged in a fire and in 1992 it was completely rebuilt and opened. St. Peter’s Church today is used by many celebrities and rich people for their weddings. There are regular concerts performed by the Royal Academy of Music String Orchestra. So, this is the perfect place to be when you are in Belgravia.
Wellington Arch
This is one of the landmarks of London. This triumphal arch was built in near the entrance of the residence of the Duke of Wellington. It was finished in 1830 and it was built as a reminder of the British victory against Napoleon. The bronze sculpture on top of the arch is one of the largest in Europe. There is no doubt that Belgravia is a place worth visiting.
