History

The name East Kilbride comes from an Irish saint called St Bride who founded a monastery in Kildare, Ireland for nuns and monks in the 6th century.
It was designated as Scotland's first new town on 6 May 1947.

· Langland Moss. This is a local nature reserve that comprises a Lowland Raised Peat Bog which is a UK BAP priority habitat. There is a boardwalk where you can walk over the reserve to observe the wildlife.
· Whitelee Windfarm. The largest on shore wind farm in Europe.
