Flower Delivery to Epping by Clare Florist

The south west corner of Essex County is definitely a place filled with character. Referred to as the Epping Forest District, it is an area filled with green spaces. Apart from the flora and fauna that abounds, the said district is also steeped in history. Whether you are looking to spend time in the great outdoors or learn more about royal heritage, this place has something to offer.

But what if you have recently moved to the UK and are looking for a residential area that’s an easy commute from the capital? Epping is a market town that’s less than an hour away from London. Despite its close proximity to the bustling metropolis, it has retained much of its charm and practices.

The earliest records of the town were found in the Domesday Book of 1086. Here, “Epinga” is referred to as a small group of scattered farms located at the edge of the forest. However, the exact date when settlers came to town isn’t certain.

In the 12th century, part of the forest was cleared for the purposes of cultivation. A settlement called as Epping Heath (later renamed to Epping Street) was then developed. In 1253, conveyed to it the right to hold a weekly market. In light of this, it’s safe to assume that all manner of goods, from livestock to Epping flowers, were sold at this very place.

The weekly market helped the town to become a centre of trade.

Today, this civil parish is the favoured town of residence for people working in London. It has become a haven for families and young professionals, whilst still keeping that historic look and feel.

Epping High Street
This street is still the most important one in town. Prominent structures can be found along its length. The District Council’s office sits on one end, balancing out the old Gothic water tower located found on the southern end. An attractive cluster of cottages from the 17th and 18th centuries can also be found within the street’s vicinity.

Church of St. John the Baptist
A 14th century chapel dedicated to St. John the Baptist was rebuilt in 1883. Done in true Gothic style, it later became the parish church in 1888. A large tower was added about two decades later.

Weekly Market
The weekly market mentioned earlier still continues to this day. Except for the sale of cattle which was discontinued after 1961 farmers and growers have retained most of their trade. And yes, flowers in Epping will most likely be on display at a stall or two so you can easily send flowers to Epping relatives or loved ones.

Epping Sausages
Stephen John Church opened his first butcher shop on 17th May 1888. Since then, the sausages sold at their High Street venue have been much sought after. People in Epping may have stopped producing their famous butter, but it’s good to know that there’s still this deli specialty can still be purchased by both locals and tourists alike.
