Flower Delivery to Pevensey with Clare Florist
Pevensey is a civil parish and village that is located in the district of Wealden in East Sussex, England, specifically 1.6 kilometre inland from Pevensey Bay and 8 kilometres north-east of Eastbourne. Historically, it was on this bay that William the Conqueror landed and started his invasion of England in 1066 after he crossed the English Channel from Normandy.
History
In the 4th Century, the east and south of Britannia was frequently attacked by the Saxons, Jutes and other barbarian tribes. For counter-measures, the settling Romans in Britain built several forts between the Isle of Wight and Essex, which we now know as the Saxon Shore Forts, including the Pevensey fort (Anderitum) that was constructed between 300 and 340 AD.
In late 1066, Anderitum was occupied by the Normans. Much of the Roman stonework is the work of half-brother of William and count of Mortain, Robert, who was granted the Pevensey Castle just after the Normans conquered the province. Today the castle is under the care of the English Heritage.
Rich in history and culture, the village is now visited by travellers from all around the world for its interesting attractions. You can go on a holiday here, a romantic getaway perhaps? Fortunately for you, there are flowers in Pevensey that you can order to make your trip more special.
Landmarks and Attractions
Pevensey is home to several fascinating tourist spots for the young or old alike, including the following:
· The Pevensey Castle
This is a medieval castle, which was the former Roman Saxon Shore fort. Today, it is a Scheduled Monument that is being taken care of the English Heritage and is open to tourists. As this castle is surrounded by meadowlands rich in Pevensey flowers, plants and trees, your exploration here will give you a refreshing and even invigorating experience.
· St Nicholas Church
This is the village’s Anglican parish church in the district of Wealden, which is now listed as a grade II building. Some of the church’s most interesting features are the memorial to John Wheatley, who was a wealthy local parishioner that contributed a substantial amount of money for the preparation of a ship in Pevensey to fight the Spanish Armada in 1588, and the war memorials to those who fell in the two world wars.
· Pevensey Bay Beach
This is a rural shingle beach that is known as William the Conqueror’s landing place for his conquest of Britain. Here you will find local facilities and shops that are accessible just a 100-metre walk from the shoreline.
· The Pevensey Court House Museum
This is the 16th-century court room that houses a local museum and prison cells, which are specifically located below. This is the site of the Norman invasion in 1066.
Events
Pevensey has been a venue to huge celebrations and festivals in the UK. One of them is the Wealden Food and Wine Festival that was successfully celebrated in this village in 2014. Another one is the fun and entertaining Scarecrow Festival, which includes live music performances, heritage walks, dance, comedy and even BBQs.
