Flower Delivery to Hampden Park with Clare Florist
Found as a suburb of Eastbourne, Hampden Park has a number of notable local attractions although the local railway station is known throughout the country. This is because the station, formerly known as Willingdon Halt but know recognised as Hampden Park Station, is believed to be the busiest level crossing in the whole of the UK and it is also a station where local trains, travelling on the East Coastway line, stop off twice.
As for the actual Hampden Park, it is a very large outdoor space, which contains a sizable lake. There is a café in the park, there is a playground for children, playing fields, tennis courts and there are many routes and pathways for joggers, runners and strollers to enjoy. There are also a number of sports fields in the park, making it the ideal location for anyone looking to enjoy the healthier and more active side of life. The Eastbourne Rugby Club calls the park home and there are also two local bowling clubs which are located close by.
In addition to all of the sporting activity, Hampden Park plays host to a great selection of wildlife. The most common inhabitant of the park is the grey squirrel but there are many species found in the lake. You will find that mallard ducks, Canada geese, moorhen, mute swans, gulls, herons and the rock pigeon are all common visitors to the lake.
There has been a large improvement to the lake, with funding provided by the Big Lottery Fund and a great level of work being carried out by an organisation called The Friends of Hampden Park.
The story of Hampden Park before 1901 was of a park owned by Lord Willingdon as part of the Ratton Estate but at the turn of that century, the park and lake had fallen into disrepair and a deal was reached by the Lord with the Eastbourne Corporation for 78 acres to be taken over by the corporation. The main agreement part of the deal was that a new road would be constructed between Eastbourne and Willingdon.
The park is just one of many parks located in Eastbourne, an area that is well noted for its fine array of public space, and there have been some great floral displays in the wider community. The Carpet Gardens is a prominent feature to be found on the coastal road, situated very close to the pier. There is a great sense of local pride in these displays and they have been the recipient of a number of awards in the past 15 years. The town is still extremely proud of the Coastal Resort B category award that the display earned in the Britain In Bloom competition, held in 2003. Given its location and the great diversity of weather conditions on offer, Hampden Park and Eastbourne itself is a great place to grow a wide range of flowers.
