HISTORY

It wasn't until the 13th century when Kilmaurs became known by its name today. Prior to that, it was called the hamlet of Cunninghame. It is suggested that the name Kilmaurs comes from the Gaelic Cil Mor Ais which means Hill of the Great Cairn.

Kilmaurs is where the last remaining hanger (a kind of hunting sword) was made. This piece is now at the Kelvingrove Museum in Glasgow.
