Flower Delivery to Ugborough with Clare Florist

Ugborough is a relatively small village and civil parish located in the county of Devon in the southwest part of England. This village belongs to the local government district of South Hams. According to the last census, the civil parish of Ugborough has a population of 1700, but this population includes the people who leave in some other settlements like Wrangaton, Moorhaven Village, Cheston and Bittaford. Although there were people who lived here since prehistoric times, the truth is that this entire region was populated only by a small number of people when the English decided to expand south from Dartmoor. What is interesting about this region is that the Celtic influence is very small or almost non-existing, something we can’t say about Cornwall for example. Even though this area is located very close to the sea, the Anglo-Saxon settler who decided to use this land were focused on agriculture and farming. There is evidence of their presence before the 6th century, but in the 6th century they have managed to farm the vast majority of Devon.
The etymology of the name of the village comes from the old English words which mean – Ugga’s fortified place. The village was mentioned in the Domesday Book too. The village gradually expanded after that and it became the largest village in this region in the 19th century. However, the changes in the administrative borders changed its size. In the 20th century, this area was known for the china clay deposits.
