Flower Delivery to Yeaveley with Clare Florist
Yeaveley is a charming little village located in Derbyshire County, in the east Midlands region of England. This small village is located in a quiet part of the countryside, south of Ashbourne. Yeaveley is near Rodley Hamlet, and its residents enjoy a peaceful setting, not much changed from the past 200 years or so. Stydd Hall is what remains of the old Manor, on a private farming site. Yeaveley is a great place for the outdoor enthusiast. The town is too small for a school, but it does have the Horseshoe Inn for travellers to town. The Holy Trinity Church serves the region.
Somewhere between 1189 and 1199, during the reign of Richard I, a man called Ralph Foun provided funding for a monastery to the Knights Hospitallers, a famous Roman Catholic military order during the middle ages. Their Yeaveley estate included lands, mills, waters, and woods.
There have been many famous people who were born in Yeaveley. Henry Yevele, born in 1320, was a medieval architect who created the Westminster Abbey nave. John Jackson Oakden was a pioneer pastoralist and south Australian explorer, born in 1818.
Stydd Hall, or Castle, is a country house close to town. It used to have its own town, but that has since disappeared. All that remains of the estate is the hall, and the current owner’s farm. The hall is currently in need of repair and restoration, but is still in use as a farmhouse. Visitors may use the footpaths surrounding the property, but the hall remains private.
The Holy Trinity Church in Yeaveley is of the Church of England denomination. It was built in 1840 and is still in great shape. Its parish registers begin in 1841. It has a simple red brick construction with nave and tower. The tower is embattled at the top, and contains one bell. In 1895 records show it was covered in ivy, but that has been cleared prior to today, as the tower remains bare. The church is still in use today. It has a graveyard on the side, which would have been closed with the Burial Act of 1853, to allow for a municipal cemetery.
Many outdoor activities can be enjoyed by the tourist or the resident. There are plenty of fishing opportunities, and trails for hiking or walking. Outdoor sports range from clay pigeon shooting, to quad biking.
Musical events are popular. Just seven miles from central Yeaveley is the Buxton Festival in May, an opportunity for people to gather for a classical string quartet concert, with dinner.
The Yeaveley Village Fete is held once a year and features musical entertainment by school choirs and bands. There is an afternoon tea, face painting, and stalls, and a chance to purchase local produce, flowers, and arts and crafts.
