History

Church Broughton was described in the early 1870s as a parish in the district of Burton-upon-Trent and county of Derby; 2½ miles NNE of Scropton r. station. During that time, the hamlets of Sapperton and Harehill were also part of the parish.

The village used to be part of the ancient Appletree Hundred. Barton, which is 0.6 kilometres away, was the nearest place according to the Domesday Book. Different lords were associated with the area during the survey and they include Edric of Tissington, Alfheah of Barton, Dunning, Leodmer of Barton and Leofnoth Sterre.

During the 18th and 19th centuries, enclosure occurred in the village. Land that was once owned by all village members was now becoming privately-owned and. Walls, fences and hedges were put up in newly enclosed areas. According to the English government and aristocracy, doing so allows animals and crops to be raised better. Plus, they also argued that large fields are much more productive for farming compared to individual plots.

One of the best attractions in Church Broughton is the Saint Michael and All Angels church. A Methodist chapel dating back to 1828 is also located within the village. Badway Green, a common land, is also located in the village.
