Flower Delivery to Dolgarrog with Clare Florist

Situated in the northern portion of Wales, Dolgarrog is a small village with quite the history. On 2 November 1925, it was devastated by the bursting of two dams which sent water and boulders down and claimed the lives of 16 residents. The only building left standing of the old village is the Porth Lwyd Hotel which is now empty. Today, the victims of that terrible tragedy are remembered by a memorial walk that opened in 2014; it’s a trail that follows the route the water took towards the village.

While Dolgarrog’s history is enough to attract visitors to the area, it’s also known for one other attraction: the Conwy Valley Maze. Hailed as one of the largest – if not the largest – garden mazes in the world, the maze is situated in the Conwy Valley which is sandwiched between Trefriw and Dolgarrog. Apart from the maze, visitors can also marvel at the collection of Dolgarrog flowers in the area. Visitors can find lots of flowers in Dolgarrog in the maze’s Rose Garden, Tropical Garden and Japanese Zen Garden.

Here’s more information on Dolgarrog should you fancy a visit:

History

There’s a bit of myth involved in Dolgarrog’s history. The Welsh village is said to have taken its name from a flying dragon called Y Garrog. The beast is known to have preyed on livestock and its favourite hunting spot was the meadow (The Garrog’s meadow or Dolgarrog meadow).

Dolgarrog was also affected by the Black Death in the 1350s when many of its residents left.
The 18th century saw the beginning of Dolgarrog’s industrialisation. A flour mill was put up on the Porthwyld River while a wooden mill was built at Dolgarrog Bridge. A saw mill run by John Williams was also a success story in the area.

Aluminium production began in the village in 1907 with a rolling mill added in 1916. By 1924, a hydroelectric plant was built next to the aluminium works to assist the running of the mill.
Smelting ceased in the 1940s and the site the factory once occupied was replaced by an artificial wave pool, Surf Snowdonia.

Attractions

Lovers of adventure and the outdoors will enjoy a visit to Dolgarrog. Here, one finds a trail that relives a painful past and it’s also a place where one can find laughter and merriment. Those who want to stay the night or a couple of days can also do so with the availability of different accommodation options where one could also be romantic and call a florist to send flowers to Dolgarrog to surprise their date.

All that said, here’s a list of attractions in the village:

Memorial Walk. This is where visitors walking the area can learn about the Dolgarrog’s tragic history by passing through the trail. The village also has a small display of photographs and newspaper clippings from the disaster.

Conwy Valley Maze. The maze covers about two acres but the entire ground covers ten. Here, visitors get to enjoy the themed gardens as well as sculptured art.

Surf Snowdonia. This is an artificial wave pool capable of generating three different sized waves.
