Flower Delivery to Chesham with Clare Florist

Lying in a steep-sided valley about 28 miles north-west of London, Chesham is a friendly Buckinghamshire market town that successfully blends the old and the new. It's a wonderful combination of a market town, industrial centre, commuter dormitory and bustling community.

Surrounded by farmland, the town gives off this wonderfully romantic atmosphere. So, should you want to take a date here for a short getaway, all you need to do is buy them some Chesham flowers and the scenery will surely help you out with the rest.

Lovers of nature will love the town as it's surrounded by the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Chesham serves as a great base if you want to explore the Chilterns countryside.

The earliest signs of settlement in town dates back to the Late Mesolithic. Before 1066, three adjacent estates comprised Caestreham and one of the most important of these was held by Queen Edith, the widow of Edward the Confessor. She continued to keep the land after 1066 and William the Conqueror divided the royal lands between his half-brother, Odo, Bishop of Bayeux and Hugh de Bolbec.

Prior to the 13th century, Chesham Highham, Chesham Bury and Chesham Boys (Bois) were known as the three Cestreham manors. By the 16th century, Greater Chesham was owned by the Seymour family who then passed it tot he Cavendish family, who were Earls and later Dukes of Devonshire.

From the 16th century, the Lowndes family started purchasing land. During the reigns of Mary II, William III and Queen Anne, William Lowndes was an influential politician and Secretary to the Treasury. Over the next 200 years, the Lowndes family settled in Chesham and became influential both nationally and locally.

During the medieval times, the primary industries in town were flour production, woodworking and wool weaving. Chesham is also shaped by the four B's, three of which are related to its industries: brush making, boot and shoe making and beer brewing.
