Sunninghill is a village located in southeastern England, in Berkshire county, and is also a civil parish of Sunninghill and Ascot. It’s located in the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead. This village has over 11,600 residents. It’s located close to the Heathrow Airport, about 19 kilometres, and is 42 kilometres from Central London. Windsor is only 11 kilometres away. There are two railway stations into the village—Ascot and Sunningdale, along the London Waterloo to Reading line.

Sunninghilll has Anglo-Saxon origins and means “the home of Sunna’s people”. Sunna was a Saxon chief who had his tribe in this region. The Sunningas were a tribe who lived during the Anglo-Saxon times in England. They held territory within the early kingdom of Wessex, located in what is now called Berkshire. Sonning remained an administrative centre through the Middle Ages.

There is an old Church of England church in the village called the Church of Saint Michael and All Angels. It’s believed it was first established in 890 AD. It had an extensive rebuild in 1808, and then from 1826 to 1827.

Most of the village consists of residences with their own grounds. There are also some notable homes in this region. Cordess Hall is located in the middle of the village. It was built by Joseph and Edward Morris in 1902.

Silwood Park used to be the manor house for John de Sunninghill in 1362. During WWII, it became a convalescent home for injured airmen. In 1947, the Imperial College purchased it for their entomological research and field studies. The park of this house is still a campus for the Imperial College of London. There is a small nuclear reactor located here that has been operational since 1964, for scientific research. At any time, there are over 200 people working here.

Thomos Holloway lived in Tittenhurst Park, during the early 19th century. He was a businessman and a philanthropist. He was the founder of the Royal Holloway, London University and the Holloway Sanatorium. He died in the house in 1875. The family is buried at Sunninghill churchyard.

Tittenhurst Park is noted for being the residence of John Lennon and Yoko Ono from 1969 to 1971. Ringo Starr also lived here from 1971 to the late 1980s.
