Hurst is a village located in Berkshire, in the southeastern portion of England. It’s also considered a civil parish, and is 6.4 kilometres to the north of Wokingham, and three kilometres south of Twyford. It can be reached by the A321 road from Twyford to Wokingham. The village flows over 6.5 square kilometres of land in Berkshire county. It’s considered the largest civil parish in the Borough of Workingham.

Since Hurst is also considered a parish, it also has an elected parish council. It’s located within the unitary authority of Wokingham Borough. The parish council and the unitary authority are responsible for different functions of the government.

The closest river to the village is the River Lodden. It flows north along the western side of the village. The village lies within the alluvial flood plain of the River Lodden and other tributaries.

The M4 motorway goes along the southern part of the village but there is no direct way to access it. There is also the A329M which travels along the northern part of the village. Commuters may also take the train from the Twyford railway station.

Hurt is a popular destination for travellers as they have two big shows each year. The Horse Show and Country Fayre occurs once a year, and happens on the last weekend of June. There is also the Hurst Horticultural Show in August. There have been over 100 Horticultural shows to date.

There is a village hall which is a popular location for cultural gatherings, and has a pre-school playgroup.

Outdoor activities are also popular with the residents of this parish. There are many sporting clubs that enjoy cricket, fishing, football, and tennis. The best place to fish is at the Redlands. The fishing club is run by the Southlake Angling Society.

The Stanlake Wine Estate is to the north of the village. This is the largest vineyard open to the public in the Berkshire county. It originally was called Thames Valley Vineyards, and opened in 1979 by Jon S. E. Leighton. This vineyard has over 30,000 plants on twenty-five acres of land. They make over a dozen different varieties of wine, and a couple of different liqueurs. This winery also makes wine for other vineyards that don’t have the space. It’s believed they process from 150 to 200 tons of grapes each year.

There is a country house at the centre of the estate lands. It was originally built by the Aldworth family. After they became Barons Braybrooke, the family moved to Billingbear House. This family fought for Charles I during the English Civil War.

The village has an old school building that was originally built in 1843. Today it is the St. Nicholas’ Church of England Primary School.
