According to various sources on our social media news feeds, today marks Blue Monday in the UK. This is supposedly the most depressing day of the year, a claim supposedly backed by scientific research. The more sceptical among us have probably already probed a little deeper and discovered that this claim has largely been derided as preposterous psuedoscience. The whole concept of Blue Monday is now thought to be the result of a marketing ploy by a travel company.
Having said that, it is possible that the concept of Blue Monday is plausible for various reasons. The excitement of Christmas and New Year is now completely evaporated, the weather is still glum, and some of us may be in danger of failing to adhere to our well-intentioned new year's resolutions in the face of all this glumness, the effect of which could be to compound more misery upon misery.
In a bid to ward off any possible despair, sadness or melancholy arising as a result of these factors, we at Clare Florist have decided to wage war on Blue Monday with Blue Flowers. The colour blue has connotations of healing, health, understanding, tranquillity and softness - the perfect antidote to the January blues. So if you know someone who is a bit down in the dumps or needs cheering up for whatever reason, why not send them a blue flower bouquet today for some instant cheer!
