Fathers’ Day ~ June 15th

Fathers’ Day ~ June 15th

In the UK, Fathers’ Day is held on the third Sunday of June, making it June 15th this year. It began around a hundred years ago, as the important role that fathers play in the family started to come into greater recognition, a process that continues today in the work of organisations like the Institute of Fatherhood. As well as celebrating the roles of current dads, the day honours and commemorates fathers and forefathers passed. On Fathers' Day, dad’s are typically treated to gifts and cards. Though not as popular as on Mothers' Day, flowers can make a great gift for dads too (have a look at my earlier blog ‘Not just for the ladies’). Many families choose to spend the day together, enjoying an activity or outing. Here’s a fathers’ day poem I thought you might like – and it’s easily adaptable to fit your own dad’s particular talents.

God took the strength of a mountain,
The majesty of a tree,
The warmth of a summer sun,
The calm of a quiet sea,
The generous soul of nature,
The comforting arm of night,
The wisdom of the ages,
The power of the eagles in flight,
The joy of a morning in spring,
The faith of a mustard seed,
The patience of eternity,
The depth of a family need,
Then God combined these qualities,
And there was nothing more to add,
He knew his masterpiece was complete,
And He called it – Dad.

We know some Dads won't like flowers so we've added a new product that's just a simple box of 30 continental chocolates.
